Sanitize Binder Tanks

CAUTION: Hand-wash only for all printer components and accessories.

CAUTION: To avoid warping, do not use hot water when cleaning any of these components. Use warm water instead.

WARNING: BINDER IS FLAMMABLE AND EXPLOSIVE. DO NOT PERFORM THESE STEPS AROUND IGNITION SOURCES.

Frequency: Yearly

TIP: Try to schedule this procedure when the level in each tank is below 300 mL, as it will be simpler with less binder in each tank.

Also, this procedure should be performed for one binder tank at a time to minimize residual dripping.

  1. Power the printer off.

  1. Wearing food-safe gloves, engage the quick disconnect at the top of the tank. Have a paper towel on-hand to catch any binder that may drip from the fitting on the printer.

  1. Remove the tank from the Receiver and place it on a clean work surface. While the tank is removed, take the time to sanitize the sliding mount and interior wall of the binder-receiver area around the tank.

  1. Over a sink or paper towel, unscrew the top lid and slide it past the quick-disconnect tubing. Set the lid aside.

  1. Discard excess binder according to all government regulations.

CAUTION: Do NOT pour excess binder back into a binder refill bottle or into any other container. Doing so risks vital chemical components evaporating from the binder, and risks contaminants getting into the binder, and then the printer.

  1. Rinse and sanitize the binder tank, lid, and drop-tube assembly. Additionally, sanitize the tethered cap on the binder tank with your sanitizing solution and a clean, dry cloth. Do NOT disassemble any of these components further than what is seen at the right.
  2. Rinse all components three times in warm water and allow them to thoroughly air dry. Do NOT use a towel or other method to dry the components, as these methods could contaminate them.

  1. Reinstall the drop tube assembly in the tank and slide the lid over it. Tighten the lid on the tank to secure the drop tube in place.

  1. Reinstall the tank in the printer and reconnect the quick disconnect to the fitting above it.
  2. Repeat all steps for each remaining binder tank.
  3. Once sanitation is complete, thoroughly rinse all components once more.
