Clean Drive Isolation Bands

NOTE: This procedure is not to be confused with the annual maintenance item: Sanitize Drive Isolation Components.

CAUTION: Hand-wash only for all printer components and accessories.

CAUTION: To avoid warping, do not use hot water when cleaning any of these components. Use warm water instead.

This procedure is to clean powder and residue off of the drive-isolation bands. This will help ensure smooth movement of the X and Y axes during printing.

Clean X-Axis Isolation Band

  1. Close the printer hood and use the touch screen to open up the Clean Roller procedure. This will move the gantry to its left limit.

  1. Open the hood and remove the outer cover of the X axis.

  1. Wipe down the front and back of the cover with a microfiber mop pad. Allow it to thoroughly dry.

  1. Wipe the top and bottom of the X-Axis clear band with a microfiber mop pad. Wipe down the other exposed surfaces. Allow the components to dry thoroughly before reusing the printer.

  1. Manually move the Gantry to the right to gain access to the rest of the X axis surfaces and band. Wipe the band and surfaces with a microfiber mop pad, and allow them to dry thoroughly before reusing the printer.

  1. Verify that the clear band is still within the guides along the X axis, including within the band-keeper clips (below), and that it is attached on both sides of the gantry.

  1. Reinstall the X axis cover, ensuring that the cover engages with the magnets and cover connections on the printer.
  2. Move the gantry back and forth to test that it moves smoothly.

Clean Y-Axis Isolation Band

  1. Manually move the gantry to its right-most limit.
  2. Remove the Y-Axis outer cover.

  1. Wipe the top and bottom of the Y-Axis clear band with a microfiber mop pad. Wipe down the other exposed surfaces. Allow the components to dry thoroughly before reusing the printer.

  1. Manually move the printhead toward the front of the printer to gain access to other parts of the isolation band. Clean and dry as in Step 3.

  1. Wipe down all surfaces of the cover with a microfiber mop pad. Allow it to thoroughly dry.

  1. Verify that the clear band is still within the guides along the Y axis, and that it is attached on both sides of the printhead.

  1. Reinstall the Y-axis outer cover, ensuring that the cover engages with the magnets and cover connections on the printer.
  2. Move the printhead back and forth to test that it moves smoothly.

  1. Close the printer hood and tap Roller is Inserted on the touch screen to move all components back to their home positions.
