Sanitize Drive Isolation Components

NOTE: This procedure is not to be confused with the weekly maintenance item: Clean Drive Isolation Bands.

CAUTION: Hand-wash only for all printer components and accessories.

CAUTION: To avoid warping, do not use hot water when cleaning any of these components. Use warm water instead.

Frequency: Yearly

Drive isolation refers to coverings on the printer that protect mechanical components from powder and binder. These are mainly covering the movement systems of the X and Y axes. This procedure will guide you through cleaning the X and Y axes' drive isolation.

Y-Axis Drive Isolation

After removing each component in this procedure, sanitize it with a damp cloth that is saturated with your sanitation solution.

  1. Lift up on the Y-Axis Isolation Outer Cover to remove. Sanitize.

  1. Lift each end of the Y-Axis Isolation Band out of the Gate Assembly to release the Gate Closure. Carefully set aside the Y-Axis Isolation Band. Sanitize.

  1. Clean the inner printhead cover.
  2. Close the hood and begin the Clean Roller, Blade, and Snowplows procedure to gain better access to the inner printhead cover.
  3. Allow all covers to air-dry thoroughly before reinstalling in the machine.

  1. Reinstall the outer printhead cover by snapping the prongs on each side over the metal guide posts.

  1. Reinstall the Y-axis Isolation Gate by pushing the two pieces together around the printhead, with the smaller part on the right. Ensure that the bottom of the gate fits inside the y-axis track (1, below). Also, you can be sure of the correct orientation of the gate by making sure the dot on the right gate piece faces up (2, below).

  1. Lower the posts on both sides of the band into the slots on the isolation gate.

X-Axis Drive Isolation

After removing each component in this procedure, sanitize it with a damp cloth that is saturated with your sanitation solution.

  1. Use the Clean Spreader Roller function on the UI to move the printhead gantry to the far-left position.

  1. Lift upward on the X-Axis Isolation Outer Cover and angle as shown while sliding the cover to the right. Sanitize.

NOTE: Be careful not to lift Upper Tracks when lifting Outer Cover. Due to space constraints, removal of Outer Cover is not possible if Upper Tracks are not fully seated against Inner Cover.
